Useful Applications
Here are some applications I've found useful throughout my days; applications for Linux, Mac, or Windows! (ALL of which are free, because free truly is the most useful kind of software!)
Acquisition
A P2P application that connects to the Gnutella. Unlike every other P2P client, Acquisition actually has an aesthetic appeal. Unfortunately, it will only download at full speed for less than sixty minutes unless you purchase a license.Also, see FrostWire and LimeWire.

Adium
An IM (Instant Messaging) client for Mac. It has a lot more functionality than iChat. Specifically, it supports a lot of IM protocols, including AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, Google Talk, Facebook, MobileMe, Novell, Jabber, etc.Mac Download

An Open Source and very powerful FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, and S3 client that allows multiple connections. It even interfaces conveniently with OS X’s QuickLook and Keychain features.Also, see FileZilla.

A useful, fast PDF viewer for Windows. The best Adobe alternative I’ve ever found. (It also has a much faster and just as powerful PDF creator to compete with Adobe Acrobat, but it isn’t free like the viewer.)Windows Download
